Distance treatment and flights to/from

Postby sanitoid » Fri May 25, 2012 9:42 am

Hi All,

I'm scheduled to have treatment for abdominal mesothelioma around the first week of July (pre operative appointment is 6/4...)

For those of you who had to fly to obtain your treatment, how did you arrange for your flights? The way there is pretty cut and dry, but getting back might not be on the day they think I actually get discharged.

Did you buy a regular fare, round trip ticket and just pay the change fee?

Did you buy 2 one way tickets (were they refundable or non-refundable)?

Did you buy a refundable, round trip ticket so that you could change the return date without too much issue?

What do I need to do to help avoid being accosted by the TSA as I will have a very recent surgery scar (in light of the recent concerns that people are threatening to have implanted explosive devices)

Thanks in advance,

Holly

Have you looked into Angel Flight? They are usually done with private planes and are free. Maybe get an Angel Flight there.

As far as the TSA, if you go Angel Flight there would be no problem. But, if you go commercial, one thing that you could do is book a ticket as requiring help. Request a wheelchair. That usually helps with the flight checks. At least, if it happens, you will be in a chair.
